Below is a list of which services I do and don’t offer, a summary of my editing process, and an explanation of my pricing structure. If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Every service includes:
- A free initial consultation (either by email or zoom).
- Style Edit: I will look over the structure of your pattern to check that it flows logically and that all necessary instructions are there (including yarn, gauge, notions, and needle information). I will also check spelling and grammar, make sure that the correct terminology and abbreviations are used, and check that written instructions are unambiguous. Additionally, I will check that the style is consistent throughout your pattern, which I can do using either your style sheet or a previous pattern of yours, or my own style sheet if you prefer.
- Technical Edit: I will check stitch and row counts and make sure that stitch patterns and shaping give the desired result. I will also make sure that the measurements, measurement conversions, and any schematics included are correct, as well as checking charts and chart keys. I will also compare measurements given to a sizing standard (I will usually use Ysolda’s sizing chart, but if you would prefer I use a different one I absolutely can!)
- A final proofread.

My Workflow
Once you contact me, we can have an initial consultation, which can be done over either email or zoom. In this consultation, we can discuss your pattern, your editing preferences, pricing, editing timeline, and any other questions you may have. Then I’ll get to work editing your pattern!
I will do my style and technical edits, and then communicate corrections and suggestions to you via either annotations on a pdf or comments on a word/google doc (whichever your preference is), as well as more detailed notes in an email. You can then look these over and we can discuss them further, and when you’re happy with all the edits you can go ahead and make the changes in your pattern! I’ll then go back through checking all the changes that you’ve made, and let you know if I notice any more potential issues. I may send you the pattern back with only style or technical edits done if there are quite a few comments, as it’s sometimes harder to spot problems if there are lots of annotations in the way, and I don’t want anything to be missed. Then I’ll be able to do your next round of edits with a clean pattern.
When I’m working on your pattern, I’ll keep in communication about how it’s going and let you know any questions I have. I may also ask you for more sample photos if I need them, to help me see the stitch pattern or gauge more easily. After each pass, I’ll update you on how much time the edit has taken so far, so you can get a better idea of what the final cost will be. If I think the editing will take longer than the original estimate, I will ask your permission before doing any more work that would take me over the estimated cost; this way you won’t be taken by surprise if the edit costs more than you expected. Once we’re both happy with all the edits, I’ll do a final proofread, and your pattern will be ready to go! This can be done straight after the style and tech edits, but if you’re getting your pattern test knitted I’m happy to do this after the test knit period instead.
Working Hours and Project Timeline
I am doing tech editing alongside studying for my master’s so have slightly strange working hours, but these are all the times I will be working on patterns and available for communication:
Monday: 9 AM – 3 PM BST
Tuesday: 6 PM – 9 PM BST
Wednesday: 2 PM – 8 PM BST
Thursday: 6 PM – 9 PM BST
Friday: 6 PM – 9 PM BST
Saturday: 3 PM – 8 PM BST
Please feel free to reach out to me outside of these hours with any questions, but this is when you can expect to hear back. Please allow five working days after sending me your pattern for me to get your edits back to you, and a further two for the proofread.
I will invoice you after the final proofread is completed, and payment will be due within 30 days of receipt of the invoice. If payment is not received within this time frame I do charge a 10% late fee, but if there are any problems with payment please let me know before this point and I’ll see what I can do to help! I accept payment via either bank transfer or PayPal.
Pricing
I charge by the hour at a rate of £20 GBP/hour, with a minimum charge of one hour. As I am currently looking for my first clients, I will be doing projects at a reduced rate of £10 GBP/hour in exchange for a testimonial after I have edited your pattern. This will only be available for a limited number of patterns, so head over to the contact page to get in touch!
The table below shows an estimate of how long different types of pattern may typically take, but as this is just an estimate final cost may vary.

Pattern Type Explanations
- Simple Accessories: one size, no charts
- Medium Accessories: Up to three sizes, one chart, standard shaping and techniques
- Complex Accessories: More than three sizes, multiple charts, extensive shaping and more advanced techniques
- Simple Garments: Up to three sizes, no charts, standard shaping or construction
- Medium Garments: Four to six sizes, one chart, standard shaping or construction
- Complex Garments: More than six sizes, multiple charts, extensive or innovative shaping, techniques, and/or construction
